Sculptra

Over time, your skin loses its full, firm, youthful appearance. This is the result of a natural ageing process: your skin is damaged, becomes thinner, or loses its natural elasticity. As a result, the skin becomes loose and starts to wrinkle. Fat tissue, which also helps to fill out your face, is lost, causing skin to sag and further wrinkle. This reduction in skin volume can make your face look thin and narrow, possibly making you appear older than you are. Fortunately, Sculptra™ may smooth lines and wrinkles and help your skin regain a firm and youthful appearance by restoring skin volume you may have naturally lost.

With Sculptra™, you can restore facial contour and get rid of lines and wrinkles without surgery. Sculptra™ is a synthetic, injectable material that contains skin-smoothing microparticles to help lift and smooth sagging skin, severe wrinkles, creases, dark circles, and scars.

Poly-L-lactic acid, the main ingredient of Sculptra™, has been used successfully in surgical procedures, for bioresorbable sutures, in bone plates and screws, and as a medium for medication, among others? For more than 25 years. Sculptra™ has been specially developed to repair contour defects in the face. More than 150,000 patients have been treated worldwide since 1999.[2] Sculptra™ is long-lasting, biocompatible, and biodegradable.[1]

How does Sculptra Work?

Commonly Asked Questions

How does Sculptra™work?

Sculptra™ works in the lower layers of the skin in order to smooth and firm the treated areas of the face. Sculptra™ is a unique substance which is gradually and naturally broken down by the body. Sculptra™ is immunology inert, so that no allergy tests are necessary before beginning with treatment.

The number of necessary injections depends on many factors. After the first treatment, your practitioner will recommend whether you need any subsequent treatments and how many these should be. Generally, several treatments can be necessary to obtain the required results. However, in contrast to some other treatments which require frequent refresher sessions, after the end of your Sculptra™ programme the results will last up to 2 years (The results can differ depending on age, wrinkling and the type of procedure used)

Who performs treatment with Sculptra™?

A qualified practitioner who has been trained to use the correct procedure for Sculptra™ performs the treatment. Your Healthcare Professional will clean your skin and then inject Sculptra™ in the areas of your face being treated.

Does the treatment hurts?

As with all injections you will feel some discomfort. It may be that you notice a brief burning sensation at the injection site. An ice packed applied after the treatment will help to calm your skin. If necessary, your practitioner can also give you a local anaesthetic.

What must I bear in mind after the treatment?

Your Healthcare Professional will give you special aftercare instructions. These include massaging the treated areas of your face in the first few days after the treatment. All you need is a few minutes twice a day.

Are there any side effects?

The most common side effect with the use of Sculptra™ include injection-related side effects at the site of injection such as bleeding, tenderness or pain, redness, bruising, or swelling. These effects generally resolve in 2-6 days.

What is the difference between Sculptra and Dermal Fillers

Both Sculptra and Dermal Fillers are considered volumizing procedures. Products such as Hydrafill and Restylane are not as long lasting and are much more expensive to use when treating a large area such as cheekbones enhancements and chin and jaw-line enhancement. Sculptra and other dermal fillers can be combined to give a more complete aesthetic outcome.

How much does the procedure cost?

The price ranges between £900 to £1800 depending on the areas that needs to be volumized. This treatment will last approximately 2 years.
