Intense Pulse Light Laser (IPL)

Lasers emit coherent energy at a specific wavelength in a single beam of light. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is broadband light energy that enables large areas to be treated with a single discharge.

Are all IPL laser machines the same?

IPL is a generic name and the quality of the machine does determine the effectiveness of the treatment. There are different types and quality of machines designed for different markets. For example, the non-medical (beauty salons, aesthetic salons) rarely use the medical grade machines because these machines are designed for use by a medical practioner. Hence an IPL machine designed for the non medial market will most probably be less effective than a medical grade IPL machine which must be used by medical professionals and the premise must be approved by the Health Care Standards.

Will any IPL machine give the similar results?

No. The quality of the machine and the training of the clinician are directly related to the results achieved. One should not just compare prices of the treatment, it is important that you receive treatment from a medial facility with High Grade Medical IPL equipment.

Hair Reduction-Summary Description

Red light is absorbed by pigment in the hair shaft, heating up the follicle and preventing further regrowth without damaging the surrounding skin.

How it works?

Highly controlled flashes of light energy are selectively absorbed by hair-filled follicles. The melanin absorbs the light, heats the hair shaft damaging hair regrowth but not the surrounding skin.

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatments a particular patient requires will vary due to a variety of factors including hair density, colour of skin and hair, and on location of hair on the body. Also important is which hairs are at their growing stage as hair removal is only successful on those hairs that are in their grow stage. At any given time your hairs will be at different stages of growth hence repeating an area at a subsequent visit to remove the residual hair is common.

The growth cycle will be influenced by age, hormones and gender. The important thing to remember is the higher specification IPL equipment used generates improved results at each application and that greatly reduces the number of visits required. At Pearl Studios we operate high specification equipment that requires the use of skilled practitioners who optimise the settings for each patient and at each subsequent visit.

Are the treatments painful?

The treatment is not painful however there is a slight discomfort usually described by patients as a sting or a snap of a rubber band. No local anaesthetic is required as the treatment is tolerable. The treatments are so effective that patients can return immediately to work or their daily routine and hence there is no lost time
